Lu Cheng

Lu Cheng (b. 1996, China, lives and works in Munich)

Lu Cheng works with different forms of growth of biomorphic forms. Through her works with different materials, she creates installations and sculptural objects that pause for a moment in the process of growth. These are not representations of natural organisms, but pseudo-natural objects that are created through a long manual process in which she builds the own relationship to the object and its environment from playful examination of the material and its properties. Part of her work is created by the Knotting or crocheting organic shapes that she would describe as soft sculptures. The processing of materials such as copper wire or nylon threads results in body coverings that deliberately evoke associations that go beyond the original material used.
